Our Overall #1 Rated Pick

Updated On September 22, 2023

In our humble opinion, the best extension pole for paint rollers is this amazing Pro-Pole Extension Pole by Mr. LongArm.

This thing is super versatile and it comes in several different lengths on Amazon ranging from 2ft to 12 ft.

Not only is this thing designed with pro painters in mind, but it's also heavy-duty and easy to use.

This thing goes way beyond the dinky little light bulb changer extension poles out there because it's ergonomically designed to be non-slip and rust-resistant.

It's honestly just one of the best tools for a professional painter - or even an avid DIY home improvement geek - to add to their arsenal!

When Should You Use A Paint Roller Extension Pole?

The quick answer is: when you need to reach to paint!

Simplicity aside, paint roller extension poles make it so much easier to paint tall walls than the traditional paintbrush and ladder setup.

Beyond that, however, painting extension poles like this are fantastic for saving your back if you're someone who is painting a lot or - like me - you're short!

I honestly love having one of these around (I have pick #2 sitting in my closet as I write this) as a general-purpose reach extension pole for things like dusting and cleaning when my boyfriend isn't around to reach for me.

But for painting purposes, extension poles are absolutely an essential painting tool in my opinion because they allow you to be much more efficient when painting a wall.

Rather than having to come down off your ladder to reach your paint tray, move the ladder every time you start a new section, and balance precariously as you try to reach those nooks and crannies, you can simply stand on the ground and reach the top of the wall in a few easy motions!

It's truly a much more efficient (and professional) way to create beautiful results.

You can see more about that in my article below on how to paint a wall like a pro.

From sanding a wall to priming, to painting, professionals tend to use telescopic poles for a variety of tasks because they're much more efficient than having to use a ladder.

Did you know: Paint rollers were invented in 1940 by a Canadian man named Norman Beakey. He wanted to make a way to apply paint much more efficiently, so he developed the first prototype of the paint rollers we use today.

How To Choose A High-Quality Paint Roller Extension Pole?

So now let's beg the question: what exactly is the difference between a simple, multi-purpose easy reach pole, and a professional-grade extension pole?

Well, there are quite a few differences!

For one, professional-grade extension poles usually come with a high-quality twist-lock mechanism, they're made with anodized aluminum extension poles that are rust-resistant, and they typically have a fiberglass handle that's lightweight and easy to grip.

Whew! That was a mouthful. Do you see the difference?

While there's nothing wrong with choosing a simple model like our budget option (especially if you're a DIY fanatic and you won't be using it much) it's not going to be the same experience as a professional telescoping pole.

So what should you look for in a high-quality pole?

Well, as I just mentioned, you want to make sure it has an easy-to-use locking mechanism, a good grip, it's lightweight, and the best ones have an external chuck and collet locking device to ensure it stays in place.

Our Reviews Of The Best Paint Roller Extension Poles

Our top choice professional-grade extension pole has to be the Mr. LongArm 6-12 foot extension pole.

This telescoping extension pole is perfectly designed with painters in mind.

From the fiberglass handle to the anodized aluminum inner pole to the chuck and collet locking system, this thing makes painting a breeze!

It's truly one of the best extension poles on the market for painting and it comes in at such a reasonable price point, it's hard to beat.

Pros

  • Rust-resistant aluminum slider
  • Fiberglass easy-grip handle
  • Secure lock at any length

Cons

  • Some users had issues with the threaded tip breaking (could be a user error issue, however)

Our second choice (my personal multi-purpose telescopic pole) is this simple extendable aluminum handle from Superio.

Is it perfectly designed for painting? No. But coming in at right around $15, it's a great place to start for a DIY home improvement fanatic who doesn't want to break the bank, but wants to save their back!

I've used this pole for dusting, mopping, and yes, painting.

It gets the job done, it's lightweight, and it's pretty darn sturdy for such an affordable price!

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Multi-use
  • Extendable to 5 feet

Cons

  • Not specifically designed for painting

Our best high-end choice for someone looking for a heavy-duty, painter focused extension pole is the DocaPole 6-24 foot extension pole!

This thing is just...incredible.

Don't let the price point scare you off, the DocaPole is worth the price simply for the metal tip and the multi-angle rotating head.

But the features don't stop there, it has a padded grip for comfort and easy reach, a quick-release thumb lever system that makes it easily retractable, and at it's furthest extension it offers 30 feet of reach!

If you're someone who likes to invest in quality products, look no further than the DocaPole.

Pros

  • Multi-purpose
  • Multi-angle tip
  • Multiple lengths

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Can't be used for light bulb changing

One of our other top choices is the EVERSPROUT Telescopic Extension Pole.

This pole has quite a few amazing qualities such as double-hand grips, anodized aluminum pole, and secure flip-tab technology that makes it easy to lock the pole in place.

Plus, the threaded tip on this extension pole is a 3/4" ACME thread that works with almost any paint roller frame, as well as many other household tools.

Which means this telescoping extension pole is also actually a truly multi-purpose pole and can be used as a light bulb changer, a duster, and a squeegee handle too.

So if you want to get the best bang for your buck, this is a great choice!

Pros

  • Tab-lock mechanism
  • Multi-use
  • Durable and lightweight

Cons

  • Can flex a bit when fully extended

Our next choice is the renowned Purdy Power-Lock Professional Grade Extension Pole because it's another incredible example of what happens when companies put painters first.

This pole is designed with professional painters needs in mind, thanks to its shock absorbant rubber base grip. That makes it much easier to prevent fiberglass blowout and it also makes it easy to use this extension pole for longer periods of time.

But beyond that, it's heavy-duty and perfect for professionals who want to up their painting game while also helping out their back!

Pros

  • Power lock system
  • Metal Tip
  • ACME compatible tip

Cons

  • Can flex a bit when fully extended

Our final choice is this scrappy little extension pole by Wooster.

This convertible extension pole adjusts in 6-inch increments all the way up to 4 feet, however, it does come in sizes all the way up to 16 feet.

It also packs a punch feature-wise with a metal tip made of zinc and fiberglass-reinforced nylon lever that makes it easy to release your tool from the tip and change it out.

Pros

  • Multiple lengths available
  • Adjusts in 6-inch increments
  • Rugged fiberglass outer pole

Cons

  • A bit on the heavy side

Our top choice extension pole still has to be the Mr. LongArm Pro-Pole Extension Pole.

Not only is this one well-known among professional painters, but it's also just an all-around fantastic multi-purpose extension pole with amazing locking technology that makes it much easier to use than some of the other extension poles out there.

Plus, it's such a great value for the money. Find it at the lowest price on Amazon now!
